In November 2021, we welcomed internationally-known photorealistic muralist, Case MaClaim, to re-envision the east end of Foundry Way. The aim- to create a piece that would show the vibrance of St. Louis community and the connectedness within St. Louis that City Foundry so represents and makes space for.
On arriving in St. Louis and touring City Foundry, MaClaim noticed so many women who ran businesses and who were the foundation of St. Louis businesses day-in and day-out. He knew he wanted to represent the hands of these women who are the “glue to society” and whose work has been integral to progress in STL.
The final result exceeded our expectations. The mural depicts a series of five women’s hands tying their apron strings- to represent the foundational hard work of so many entrepreneurial and determined women.
On November 5th, we unveiled the finishing stages of the mural with a Friday night block party called “In A Way: A TakeOver for the Arts”! St. Louis’s amazing artist community showed up, with local artist booths, live music, and even hip-hop dance performances from Yes Honey Studio.
The mural completed resides on the east end of City Foundry for all to enjoy, just below Fresh Thyme.
