30k SF store will be located in historic grocery distribution building.
St. Louis – June 20, 2019 – City Foundry STL is pleased to announce Fresh Thyme Farmers Market as the mixed-use development’s latest tenant. The 30,000 square foot store will be located in the redeveloped Byco building at the southwest corner of Forest Park Avenue and Spring Avenue, serving neighborhoods throughout the city as well as Saint Louis University.
It is the Chicago-based grocer’s seventh store in the St. Louis region.
“We’re honored to be included in this exciting project with meaningful historic significance,” said Chris Sherrell, Fresh Thyme CEO. “Fresh Thyme is passionate about improving the wellbeing of our communities through healthy food, which perfectly complements the vision of the project to support active lifestyles, celebrate culinary experiences and foster the creation of a vibrant community.”
“Adding Fresh Thyme to the tenant mix at City Foundry STL is exciting for many reasons,” said Steve Smith, principal owner of City Foundry STL and CEO of Lawrence Group. “Convenient access to fresh, affordable food is one of the most important assets of any neighborhood. It was a major goal of ours to offer this to the community.”
The store is a strategic addition based on its ability to continue reinforcing City Foundry STL’s role as a neighborhood anchor. It also honors the building’s history.
“Our project site includes the rehabilitation of several historic structures. The building Fresh Thyme will call home was constructed in 1937 as a distribution center for Tomboy grocery stores.” Smith said.
The store will include a large produce department, natural meats, deli foods, bakery, bulk foods, dairy, and health supplements. It will offer convenient surface parking.
“I was taken with the way that Fresh Thyme emphasizes opportunities for engagement and collaboration with the communities where they are located – from carrying local items to partnerships that serve a bigger cause,” said Dr. Fred P. Pestello, president of Saint Louis University.
“As strange as it may sound, bringing Fresh Thyme to Prospect Yards helps Saint Louis University deliver on our mission. We share the belief that working together can make a difference in our communities. This new location will provide access to fresh, healthy, and quality food at a great value to a diverse cross section of St. Louis, including the University’s 19,000 students, faculty, staff, and clinicians,” said Pestello.
Prospect Yards is the name of the district between Saint Louis University’s north and south campuses. City Foundry STL’s location is also bordered by the Cortex innovation community.
Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
